Race blog post

Race was created
Race was not always something that divided people. It was something that had started taking shape throughout the years. Racialization mostly started during the Transatlantic slave trades. This eventually started from the enslaved people being sold to various countries and turned into the racism that we have today. Race in my point of view is the division of humans based on the way they look and by their characteristics. This class helped me understand the way race came to be using events that took place in the past like the north atlantic slave trade and how it is relevant in today’s world.

These people were sold because they became enslaved after losing in battles and in war. This leads me to show this quote by Robin Blackburn” have found no evidence," writes Blackburn, "that those most concerned with the construction of the slave systems were primarily animated by racial feeling."(1). This just means that at first enslaved people were not classified with any type of race and any person could have been enslaved. This changed my whole perspective in how I saw the enslaved people and the diaspora. This also shows that enslavement of Africans had to have happened through racialization.

Racialization was worldwide not just in the new world.  Another example that race took shape throughout the years this example particularly  in the west indies. Richard Dunn states in his article “For the West Indies, the seven was a formative age : sugar became the dominant staple, slaves replaced white labor and large estates supplanted small farms(477)”. This quote shows that race was a developed trait for humans because they began to take away white’s out and replace them with enslaved people which were people that were not white. This only goes for the west indies now imagine what it would have been for the rest of the world.

Race in my eyes had to start with certain people thinking they were born superior and meant to be ahead of other people. This leads to all the things that happen in the world today. The evolution of dividing people has had a great where today you see most people who came down from are enslaved are not as successful or have as much privilege as the people who were masters and at the top have a better chance at success. In “An American tragedy” the author states, “.In cities across the country, and in rural areas of the Old South, the situation of the black underclass and, increasingly, of the black lower working classes is bad and getting worse”(pg1). This is the effect of slavery and race all these years later and the impact it had. This speaks a lot about how cultures were divided into who was better and who is inferior and somehow there needs to be a change.

  1. Good Afternoon Eric, You are missing your name, the photo should be under you blog with the caption. When citing a caption from someone it is best to cite where it came from right after the quote, so others know this was citation. In the third paragraph what part of the West Indies are you referring to? Some of your citations how are we able to decipher if its a book, magazine, video etc.I think you have a lot of key points throughout your blog.

  2. Hey Eric so, there are a few grammatical errors, make sure all your 'I's are capitalized. Also when you first quoted the " is facing the wrong way. Also you should attack introducing your quote differently. I agree with Jenelle, you should fix your citations, they aren't cited properly. Also re-read your post, I think you will catch some mistakes and confusion that you can fix.
